I tried to put into words, through music, the idea of being rescued by Jesus Christ. Like you, I have felt times when despair and regret is almost suffocating, when I’ve lacked the strength to pull myself up and I’ve needed rescued. This experience of being saved has come through many means of light and through the hands of angels on earth, and always, ultimately through the love and mercy of JESUS CHRIST. In the first verse it talks about “my biggest mistake”. Sometimes for me it has been a singular choice that I painfully regret, but many times it’s waking up to the reality of how my choices, weaknesses, thoughtlessness, or selfishness over time has created challenges in the lives of those I love, and I stand feeling helpless, knowing there is no going back in time to fix things… the pain of regret is truly exquisite. But, as I’ve thought about this idea of our “biggest mistake”, it has come with force of realization that the BIGGEST mistake is turning away from God in our suffering and not letting His grace and mercy and love rescue us to give us strength and hope that there is light ahead. In the experiences of life, it is still a daily struggle for me…but I have experienced that rescue many times and I KNOW that even when things seem impossible and hopeless…NOTHING is impossible with God. Through Christ our sins can be washed away, our mistakes can be turned into steppingstones of growth, our broken hearts can be healed…and He always stands ready to RESCUE us with His redemptive LOVE and GRACE if we will let Him.
