“Even if I’m walking, crawling, climbing, falling, marching, running… I’m going home.”

This is the main line from the chorus of  GOING HOME and it is a personal anthem for me, and it may be for you too. ❤️

I’m convinced that we ALL have days, weeks, or seasons of our lives where our journey HOME feels at a snail’s pace. Or if you’re like me, times when you feel like it’s one step forward two steps back, and you wonder if you’re going the right direction at all.

It’s easy to get discouraged and start comparing ourselves… maybe not even to others, but to better times in our lives and begin to question if the struggle is worth it.

I have a voice memo labeled “I-84” on my recording app from November 22, 2022. It was recorded while I was driving our motorhome home from Utah after our 1st recording session with the family. It was probably around 11pm, dark, and everyone was trying to sleep. You know those times when you are alone and speaking to God, without the rush of needing to go somewhere? It was one of those times. I felt an overwhelming feeling of love for Christ for giving us this journey in the first place… and out of those thoughts came a simple melody with the words of the chorus, which turned into this song.

I needed this Heavenly reminder…

His light fills the immensity of space

There is no competition to this race

We each can win if we accept His grace

At any pace…

I remember the thoughts swirling around my head, at that time, being about this life and each of our own journeys. I remember thinking about the different paces I have had to go during different seasons of life and acknowledging that falling was somehow still a forward motion, if I was trying, because of all I was learning in the process.

Sometimes I get worried about people I love who appear to be headed in the wrong direction, and no doubt some have worried about me. But when I consider God’s love, and the purpose for this life, I am infused with hope. Christ is calling us… inviting us to follow Him:

Hearing the call of distant drums
I feel my heart skip a… beat
Faith starts to take a waterfall
But I fight to move upstream
Holding the line with an iron rod
I forge on to the end
The light grows brighter up ahead
His word is my
defense

Please don’t turn away because
you see tears in my eyes
The pain is worth the price
To follow Him
even when I fall don’t fear
It’s not the finish line
I’m still on course, through Christ
I know I
’ll win

Because of Christ, there is so much purpose and so much hope knowing He will strengthen us to do all that’s needed and HIS GRACE is sufficient to bring us HOME. ❤️
