The ONE ~ CHRISTMAS Song
“For some this time of year is filled with love and cheer, still some are lonely and hurting. What’s Christmas all about… beyond the lights and crowds? Is your heart searching for something? I pray when you hear a Silent Night, you feel God’s arms open wide.”
I remember smelling the smoke and covering my face. It was the middle of the night, and because I was such a heavy sleeper, in my “dreams” I was having a hard time breathing because of the smoke – but I wasn’t waking up… until my mom came running into my room yelling “fire!”. In an instant my mind and body connected the dots and I jumped out of bed and ran through the fire and smoke outside.
It was cold, I remember that! I was 14 years old, and it was December, right before Christmas. The fire and smoke damaged nearly everything in our small apartment and my mom was single, going to college and working 2 jobs. She was overwhelmed with gratitude that everyone was safe, but she didn’t know how to move forward from there.
Then the outpouring came from members of our church. They helped us get into a different apartment, replaced needed furniture and appliances, and even provided and new tree and presents. I remember my mom standing up in church in tears, thanking everyone for their kindness and generosity.
At that age, I missed many of the details of the service given, but one thing I do remember was recognizing that I was “on God’s radar”. I was insecure at that age and, with the life pressure’s my mom was under, I remember feeling a little lost. This experience gave to our family the realization that we were remembered and loved.
I saw in action what Christlike service was. I think we especially needed it at that time – I think we needed a reminder that He was watching over us – and it came through the hands of angels here.
“He sent ONE, so we could be one – all around the world – every boy and girl, we’re His children.”
“He chose two, just like me and you, to love and to provide. He wants a better life for His children.”
“This is what Christmas represents… it’s our turn to see where we’re sent – to find the one!”
Who needs us this Christmas? I pray we can each find the ONE – Christ, as we are finding the “one” who needs our love and our lift this season.
YOU ARE LOVED!
